Character History:
Lindsey is the classic poor son, born from poverty, ostracized by his own family and god. The majority of his persecutions are real, he was born poor but he worked his way up from it. Instead of being proud of his accomplishments he decided to take it out on the world around him. While he's not nearly as amoral as his colleagues at Wolfram and Hart he has sold his soul for money. He did it long before meeting Angel and has apparently a personal history steeped in the occult and the same things that Buffy and company exist in. Mostly however he labors under the misapprehension that he has nothing - and therefore strives for everything with none of it making him happy. A classic Greek tragedy in the making.
It starts, really starts, during his stint at Wolfram and Hart after his promotion to junior partner, officially signing his contract, and losing his hand in a long drawn out battle against Angel. Angel, being a decent person made a last ditch grab for Lindsey's soul. He missed, and Lindsey deciding he wasn't interested in redemption chose darkness which led him to Darla. Darla is a major turning point for Lindsey. She becomes his personal project and over time he falls in love with her believing that not only does she love him in return but she's his ticket to getting Angel back for cutting off his hand.
He's sadly mistaken on both counts. Darla leaves him after conning him into loving her, making him a step above a fang banger and a step below an offical consort on the vampire love scale. Lindsey, embittered, begins to stress himself out even more - losing focus on his job and his profession. The firm, in a bid to try and get him to fulfill his full potential restores his hand. It turns out to belong to a coworker and Lindsey learns he's tired of all of this and mostly tired of being used. In a way, Darla helped free him from his previous restrictions.
Making him into a serious rat bastard in season 5. Lindsey makes a bid for power, mainpulates spike into becoming trapped in Los Angeles, misuses his hopes and dreams (making him believe he's a champion). all in an effort to impress his former bosses. Coming back with quite a few new tricks up his sleeve and a partner in crime named Eve, Lindsey tries to take the town. The group, plus Cordelia (who arrives as a messenger from the powers that be to help Angel remember his path.) remove his protection from the senior partners and they - pissed - lock him in a hell dimension where he lives a normal life with a wife and son during the day and spends the evening being tortured in the basement by night.
That's where he arrives in game, but his story ends sadly. After being freed from the dark dimension, he returns with Angel as his warden. Ending up working with the team, he fights and kills demons to help Angel defeat the senior partners. Lindsey is then killed by Angel's ally and his former friend Lorne who says 'This is the last thing I'll have to do.' He is sent to hell for his crimes where he is tortured for all eternity and capable of rising again at the bidding of the senior partners as their vessel on earth.
HERE IS LINDSEY'S REVISED SAMPLE
Abilities/Special Powers: Lindsey is extremely intelligent. He is a first class lawyer, graduating from Hastings college of law, youngest junior partner in a century with Wolfram and Hart. This extends to a knowledge of the occult and magic, though at the time of his canon point he prefers physical violence much more. He has the skills of a master swordsman.
At one point he had tattoos that protected him from magical and human spying as well as providing super human strength but for now his magical level is at about a 4- 4.5(with Willow being at a 7)
Third-Person Sample:
He did not dream anymore. That is not to say he did not dream, no. Dreams imply pleasantry. Dreams imply comforting memories to visit in the middle of the night. His had long since vanished. When he closed his eyes he saw nightmares in a mix of feeling and sadness. He swam in a sea of his own failings.
Jerking awake, he pulled himself out of the water of his mind and began to wander. Bare feet. The two years he spent wandering the earth taught him that bare feet sensed danger. He was alert for that - no matter how many times people would explain the place was not dangerous...
Angel was here.
That made it dangerous enough. At some point he could kill him. Destroy him. A vibration struck the stones beneath his feet - subtle. Gentle. Adding to the horror that it might all be just in his head. Some twisted new form of torture that Angel had devised for him.
He would have welcomed Angelus. HE would have welcomed someone who wouldn't torture him with his own misdeeds and undoings. Being here without Eve, without any kind of safe base was torture enough but the potential for all of the things that could go wrong...
He worried.
Someone he hadn't met passed him and he stared at them - hard and cold and mean. He sat on the tiles, folding his hands around him and staring at his fingers. Only thing you can do when you don't know another man's cards. Lindsey thought, thinking of his father, Play to win and don't let them know you're scared.
His father had said that.
It hit him, sitting there that the greatest tragedy of it all was that he was taking his father's advice. He hated the man, despised him with every fiber of his being. Angel was forcing him to trust a man who had made his young life a living hell.
He clenched his hand into a fist and twisted, hitting the wall behind him as hard as he could.
Nothing. His hand hurt. when he had his tattoos he wouldn't have hurt. Something else Angel took from him. It would be hard pressed to say what he missed more.
Angrily, he stalked back to his room and lay back - vowing not to dream. Sun peered in through the windows, anxious and curious as a child before he passed away into a nothingness still tinged with unhappy unease.
First-Person Sample:
[Lindsey doesn't know what to make of this. The last thing he remembers is falling out of the sky. Forgive the expression, but this isn't kansas anymore.]
...I'm pretty tired of playing Dorothy. Just - want to get that out there. Tossed into unusual situations without being able to defend myself.
So out with it. Angel? If this is your idea of a gag? Trying to make things interesting?
...You've changed a lot since I last met you. [And not for the better, his tone implies. And he's qualified to judge.]
What happens now? Glamour? You start with the torture? would you hurry up? I'm bored already.
Nobody ends up in Wonderland without something bad happening.
